Laughingstocks: Of course Congress should ban direct stock trading by legislators and close family

It’s clear at this point that such a rule is too much to expect members to conform to voluntarily, so there must be a legislative solution. To his credit, Georgia Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff, the 99th senator in seniority, has bucked his party’s congressional leadership — including Speaker Nancy Pelosi, whose husband has made big returns as she leads a house of Congress — and is planning to introduce legislation that would prohibit lawmakers and their close families from trading stocks and force them to put such assets in a blind trust, going farther than earlier proposals by Senate Democrats. He is reportedly looking for a GOP co-sponsor. One should step forward as soon as possible.
