NASCAR emerges from COVID cocoon and is born again with thrilling Daytona 500 | Commentary

The 500 was a hard sellout weeks before Sunday’s race with 101,500 fans in the grandstands and another 40-50,000 in the infield. Last year’s race had just 30,000 in attendance due to COVID-19 restrictions. Even better, the 500 came in the wake of NASCAR’s critically acclaimed Clash at the L.A. Coliseum two weeks ago that drew tens of thousands of new fans and an impressive TV audience.
