ESG funds are equity and/or bond portfolios in which environmental, social, and governance considerations have been factored into the investment process. This signifies that the fund’s shares and bonds have passed extensive testing to determine how sustainable the firm or government is in terms of ESG standards.

Here, in this article, we have analysed and given details such as AUM, and NAV including returns of two 1-year-old Thematic ESG Fund. These two thematic funds has offered good returns since their inception.

Kotak ESG Opportunities Fund – Direct Plan-Growth

This Thematic-ESG mutual fund scheme is from Kotak Mahindra Mutual Fund. It is an open-ended medium-sized fund of its category launched on 11 December 2020. 

This fund has Rs 1619 crore worth of Asset Under Management (AUM). The recent declared Net Asset value (NAV) on 27th April 2022 is Rs 11.868. The expense ratio of this fund is 0.32%, which is less than its category average returns.

The minimum investment amount required for this fund is Rs 5,000 and Rs 1000 for SIP.

The fund has 96.14% investment in equities of which 67.81% is in large-cap stocks, 13.12% is in mid-cap stocks, and 10.84% is in small-cap stocks.

The fund has the majority of its money invested in the Financial, Technology, Materials, Metals & Mining, and Chemicals sectors. 

The fund’s top holdings are in Infosys Ltd., Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., Hindalco Industries Ltd., State Bank of India, and ICICI Bank Ltd.

Aditya Birla Sun Life ESG Fund – Direct Plan-Growth

Launched on 24th December 2020, this is an open-ended medium-sized fund from Kotak Mahindra Mutual Fund. 

It has Rs 1060.66 crore worth of Asset Under Management (AUM). The recent declared Net Asset Value (NAV) on 27th April 2022 is Rs 12.45. The expense ratio of this fund is 0.49%, which is less than its category average returns.

The minimum investment amount required for this fund for both Lump-Sum and SIP is Rs 5,00.

Fund has 97.23% investment in equities of which 48.4% is in large-cap stocks, 24.84% is in mid-cap stocks, and 10.56% is in small-cap stocks. 
The fund has the majority of its money invested in the Technology, Financial, Services, Consumer Discretionary, and Healthcare sectors. 
The fund’s top 5 holdings are in Infosys Ltd., Larsen & Toubro Infotech Ltd., Bajaj Finance Ltd., MindTree Ltd., and Axis Bank Ltd.
