Stocks push higher into the close amid choppy trading session

Yahoo Finance markets reporter Emily McCormick details markets and sectors closing in the green today, the bond market, and the Nasdaq.

RACHELLE AKUFFO: All right, we’re just minutes away from the closing bell here on Wall Street. Let’s go over to Yahoo Finance’s Emily McCormick.

EMILY MCCORMICK: Well, guys, stocks are on track to end a choppy session higher. As we can see here, the S&P 500 holding onto gains of nearly 1%, heading into this closing bell. We did have a little bit of choppiness, as Fed Chair Jerome Powell was testifying before the House Financial Services Committee in the afternoon. But we have pushed higher on all three major averages.

Now I also want to highlight the move lower that we’re seeing in the 10-year T-note yield. We’ve actually seen a decline by about 20 basis points since the start of this week, which is a market move lower here on that 10-year T-note yield, and again, one of the big reasons why we are, in fact, seeing this move higher than for the NASDAQ composite and for tech stocks at large.

Now, if we take a look inside of the S&P 500, I do want to highlight the sector action that we’re seeing heading into the close. We do have the cyclical energy, materials, and industrial sectors moving to the downside today, whereas on the flip side, we are seeing some of those more defensive sectors, utilities, healthcare, as well as real estate, actually, also moving to the upside. Again, utilities moving up by about 2% on an intraday basis.

Then, finally, I want to leave you guys with a heat map here of the NASDAQ 100, again, seeing a lot of green across the screen here. Most of the components moving to the upside as we have this tech rally–
